TMFSE, he's dope.
I only know OF him (and not sure but I think I saw him perform) but is Junk Waffle real? If so, how would you describe him?
Yes Junkwaffel is very real, I have been working with him pretty much since I started doing this music shit, Junkwaffel is an old nerdy somewhat handsome introvert beatmaker.
He is also a heroin addict and has been in rehab for the last two months, luckily we had the record finished before he went......he is a lot to handle sometimes.
How did you come up with the concept "punk in brunswick?"
Both me and Junkwaffel are into Punk/Hardcore, and I have been going to a lot of shows in New Brunz (great scene) but the song idea came to me one day when I was shitfaced at an Ergs show and almost knocked the PA over twice, I wrote the song the next day.
What would you say is musically different between The Man from Somewhere Else and Emily Rugburn?
Well......I feel like Junkwaffel is my favorite producer, his beats just always make me wanna write, I feel at home on them. I have worked with a handful of different producers but I feel like I can say or do whatever I want with the Emily Rugburn stuff, this record is really lo-fi and grimey mainly because Junk pawned most of his equipment, but we are going to change our sound up for the next record, and the next............
Who came up with the nickname "Wet Orange?"
I did, there happens to be a lot of dustheads in good old West Orange it just made sense.
What influences/inspirations lead you to start rhyming?
I was always into hip hop but it wasn't til like 92-93 when Illmatic and 36 chambers dropped, those records were so poetic I just made me want to do it too.
When performing on stage, what goes through your mind?
Well right before I go on its (don't fuck up) but once I am up there I think my thoughts are pretty much just in that moment, just thinking about the lyrics and the crowd.
Coming from a local scene of NJ hip hop, what barriers are you trying to break/ what's the biggest challenge as an emcee?
I am sick of going to hip hop shows that are only emcees waiting for their turn to rock, I would like to bring out different kids, not just dudes in dunks and fitteds. My biggest challenge is to just get kids to listen to it, I put everything into this music and i just hope it pays off.
What was it like being on the Dirty Money/GDP tour? What craziness went down?
The Dirty Money GDP tour was off the chain!!!!! I fucking love all those guys so much, it was drunken mayhem the whole time. You can imagine what its like to be down south drunk with GDP that dude is a bucket of fun, I drank my weight in Pabst Blue Ribbon everyday. I cant wait to tour again.
I enjoy Emily Rugburn's Daily Bread, you guys should update more often?!!! Anyways, what projects have you done this year? And do you have something up your sleeve for 2009?
Go to www.divisioneastrecords.com and download our FREE EP Donkey Punch Drunk and Friends, I am mixing our full length LP called "BIRDSEED (a tribute to New Jersey)" right now so expect that out soon on DE records. We are also working on an EP with Krunky Brewster called "The ill and illery clinton EP" that should be done early 09, and when Junk gets out of rehab he will start making beats for our next record.
