I've been following G Rice Army for a while now. How did the army form and how would you describe all the women in the group?
G. Rice was formed in 2002 in Julia and I's dorm room along with our close friend Acet. But you know the rules, the first rule about G. Rice is you don't talk about G. Rice and the second rule is you don't talk about the first rule.
What's your position within G. Rice?
Founder
How did you come up with making the M16 rifle necklaces? Is it all done by you?
They are all hand made one of a kind pieces, each is unique to it's generation. I design and produce the pieces myself. The M16 is an american made standard weapon for the US military, both reliable and versatile.
Aside from making jewelry, what else do you design?
I am a freelance and full time designer as well. My day job entails accessories design for clients such as Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Aldo, Express, Delia's to name a few. In freelance i have designed accessories for labels such as Ricky and Dee, A-Z Collection, No Mas and Hayse Black
I'm excited to know about the changes taking place within G. Rice Army, can you give me a brief preview of it?
That information is not available at this time. It will be public very soon.
You were featured in May 2008 Inked Magazine, tell me about that.
I was featured in the issue telling the story of my first ink. I later joined the Inked Squad and now promote for the magazine along with my fellow Inked Girls: Sam, Steph, Denia, Chrissy and Julia. i recently returned from Rock the Ink in Rhode Island.
How many tattoos do you currently have? What's your latest one?
I lost count. The latest one i have is the Chanel inspired pearls wrapped around an anchor on the inside of my right upper arm. The diamond at the top is a Cartier signature princess cut in green for the color of m mothers birth stone and because she loves Cartier.
What would you say drives you in this "fucked" up world?
Fuck This Life saved my life. If you haven't seen it before, look for it. Issue #11 is out now. It's been very supportive in the past couple years. The social commentary as a lifestyle is well delivered and witty to say the least. Everything in the world is what it is. To label it as "fucked up" is an understatement. A generic stamp of the "anti" community. It's easy to say that everything is fucked up and that is the reason why we are all fucked up and in turn I will get fucked up. It's all well and fine. I have no argument with that kind of thinking I have been there and live that. It's only as fucked up as you are, and how much you give a shit.
How would you describe your style sense?
It is what it is. I'm a stylist but my personal style entails one word "black". It's easy, it's how i feel, it's chill, it's killer. In styling i try to talk to the photographer and see the vision. It's where we meet that we are able to produce a cohesive vision. I have to lend my styling inspiration to my friend Kerin Rose that inspires me to push my style to the limit.
In closing, how would Jessica Tong leave this piece?
Live fast die last.
